About Destination Port Stephens
Destination Port Stephens (DPS) is a non-profit, incorporated body supported by Port Stephens Council and owned by its members. DPS has 5 strategic priorities; destination marketing, leadership and advocacy, generating big events and big ideas, developing and improving product offering and being the foundation for success when it comes to the visitor economy of the Port Stephens region.
There is so much to love about the Port Stephens region; marine parks, beaches, sand dunes, nature walking, adventure sports…..the list is seriously endless!
About the opportunity
You will be the proud CEO of one of Australia’s premier visitor destinations. In collaboration with the Board, the CEO will lead the marketing of the region to the domestic and international markets through driving a range of innovative marketing and development programs across key market segments including leisure, international and business events as well as the development of new market segments aimed at increasing year-round visitation. The role is supported by a team of two who are equally passionate about what DPS can achieve for the Port Stephens region.
The beauty of this position is that as CEO you will be leading the way in each of the following areas:
Marketing – developing marketing strategies in line with the strategic plan and oversee all marketing activities. Work with external agencies as required to support the marketing plan.
Business Development – focussing on building memberships and investigating and pursuing opportunities for funding.
Communication and Industry Relations – integral to keeping all stakeholders engaged and informed through the website, meetings, and other communication channels. Develop innovative ways in which to keep the DPS community abreast of current focuses and successes.
Governance & Stakeholder Relations – acting as the chief spokesperson for the organisation. Establishing strong relationships with key stakeholders to contribute to the success of the organisation.
Financial Planning & Management – managing all funding activity including grant applications and oversee preparation of reporting.
The CEO will also be responsible for ensuring DPS maintains a high level of legal compliance and policy development in line with relevant laws and regulations.

About you
The new CEO will have a passion for communications, a focus on building relationships and a strong understanding of destination marketing principles.
As the future leader of DPS, you will be known for your ability to lead effectively with the support of a small team and be able to influence a range of stakeholders to ultimately drive tourism engagement to reach successful outcomes.
The experience we are seeking in the next CEO of Destination Port Stephens includes:
Tertiary qualifications in management/tourism or related field.
Extensive marketing experience, with involvement in online campaigns, brand management and traditional above the line marketing.
Understanding of international marketing channels and industry contacts in both domestic and international markets.
Ideally you will be coming from a senior management or executive officer position within an organisation related to tourism marketing.
