About the role
The disability advocacy role sees you support individuals where you will advocate on clients’ behalf or provide support to clients to advocate for themselves. You will also be required to link clients to services to ensure optimal outcomes across a range of matters.
With a focus on best practice, you will support clients to manage matters relating to Disability Royal Commission support, NDIS appeals as well as general advocacy support relating to legal, education, pensions, health, and discrimination matters.
This is a full-time role based in Armidale. Reporting to the Regional Manager, you will manage the following responsibilities:
Engage with people with disabilities and provide information, support, and recommendations for access to appropriate services
Provide ongoing support to clients in line with ALA’s values of honesty, integrity, respect, and courtesy
Research, understand and interpret complex information and apply best practice recommendations
Develop and review advocacy plans in line with clients desired goals
Support clients to participate in formal dispute resolution processes
Work collaboratively with the broader ALA team and work to identify opportunities for continuous improvement
Maintain appropriate records and case files in line with policies and procedures
Provide backup intake and assessment support to the team in your region
About you
We are looking for individuals who are driven by integrity and accountability. Ideally you will have:
Proven experience in a similar role
Demonstrated advocacy experience, working with people from disadvantaged or vulnerable groups
Success in providing optimal outcomes for clients
Knowledge and understanding of key disability issues including NDIS and Disability Royal Commission
Excellent communication and influencing skills including strong assessment and judgement skills
Tertiary qualifications in legal studies, social work social science, psychology, community services, or similar
