About the organisation
Since 1977, Jenny's Place has provided crisis and transitional accommodation, support, early intervention and prevention programs, outreach support and community education to women and children experiencing domestic violence and homelessness in our local community. Their programs deliver integrated case management to assist clients to obtain and maintain safe, affordable housing and referral to appropriate wrap around services to meet individual client needs.

About the role 
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Nurse to join the Jenny’s Place team, working across the Refuge, Transitional, and Housing services to provide post-crisis intervention to support client's recovery and healing.

Key duties:
  • Undertake Risk assessments, within the specified timeframe, for people in crisis who have been identified as at risk of self-harm or suicide.
  • Undertakes primary mental health assessments, review treatment plans and discuss ongoing care with the client.
  • Provide a primary mental health consultancy service and link to primary mental health service providers.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, and external government, health, and community Service Providers in the assessment and management of a client’s mental health who may be deteriorating and/or have complex mental health issues.
  • Conduct individual client and family appointments and provide trauma-informed recovery-focused mental health services.
  • Assist clients to explore impacts of trauma on children in their care and collaboratively plan for the children’s wellbeing and recovery.

You thrive in supporting individuals on their mental health journey, offering high-quality care in a nurturing, multidisciplinary environment. With your clinical expertise, you’ll conduct assessments, develop care plans, and deliver evidence-based interventions.

Skills and experience we are looking for are:
  • Registered Nurse with Mental Health qualifications or experience and AHPRA registration.
  • Experience working with women and children impacted by complex trauma and a sound understanding of the complexities and support needs of the homelessness and domestic violence client cohort is highly desirable.
  • Experience in Mental Health nursing, delivering quality client-centred mental health assessments, treatment and case coordination services.  
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution.
  • Strong clinical documentation and administrative skills.
