Job Description

  • Lead the operations for this iconic local not-for-profit

  • Be part of a values-driven organisation

  • Join a team dedicated to empowering women and children

Your leadership will directly contribute to creating a safe, independent, and dignified life for women and children, supporting the organisation’s vision of a world that is free from violence.

About the opportunity

Nova for Women and Children (Nova) supports women and children in Lake Macquarie and Newcastle who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or escaping domestic or family violence. Currently, the organisation operates across 5 locations across the local government areas they support.

As the Operations Manager, you will play a critical role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of a small but dynamic multi-site community service organisation. Your leadership will ensure that everything runs smoothly, allowing the caseworkers to focus on delivering the best support possible to women and children.

Working collaboratively with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team you will undertake strategic and organisational planning to ensure a high quality and sustainable service.

Key priorities include:

  • Effectively empower, lead and mentor Team Leaders through regular supervision sessions, feedback, coaching and support.

  • Overall responsibility for the management of human resources, including the recruitment and retention of staff, workplace planning, leave approval, training and development and performance management.

  • Assist the CEO in ensuring that Nova complies with all relevant legal requirements and requirements of funding bodies, including compliance with the Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) Minimum Standards.

  • Provide input to the financial and administrative management of the service including the development and management of budgets and board reporting.

  • In conjunction with the CEO, represent Nova and maintain a network of partnerships with relevant community services, agencies, other services and organisations for the benefit of Nova and its clients.

About you

We’re seeking a confident and progressive leader with experience in a community service organisation, ideally within the domestic violence or homelessness sector. Your leadership style should reflect Nova’s values, with a strong commitment to social justice. You will be recognised for your innovative, resilient, and collaborative approach.

Additional qualities and experience we are seeking include:

  • A minimum 3 years’ experience in effectively managing supported accommodation service/s, SHS, domestic violence, or related service.

  • Demonstrated advanced skills in leadership and mentoring staff across multiple sites and disciplines, with a collaborative management style.

  • Experience working with vulnerable women and children and an understanding of complex domestic violence with families and relationships.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology and/or related behavioural sciences, or equivalent experience.

The role is designated for a female under section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act. Please note it is a requirement  to hold a current NSW Driver’s Licence, Working With Children Check and National Police check.
