About the Role

An outstanding opportunity exists for a senior leader with a strategic mindset to lead the technology and digital business transformation at Port of Newcastle. Reporting directly to the Chief People & Information Officer, this influential role is responsible for driving strategic alignment between technology initiatives and organisational objectives, ensuring technology delivers meaningful business impact, innovation, and sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

As the Senior Manager Technology & Transformation, you will lead the development, alignment, and successful delivery of Port of Newcastle’s digital and technology roadmap, driving meaningful business transformation and innovation. This role demands proactive leadership and resilience to effectively manage complex challenges. You will serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Team, Board of Directors, senior operational leaders, and external stakeholders, clearly communicating strategic initiatives to achieve consensus and decisive action.

You will oversee strategic initiatives across digital innovation, automation, cybersecurity, emerging technologies, and regulatory compliance, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and rigorous execution. Central to your role is fostering a collaborative, results-oriented team environment, empowering leaders within the technology function, and strategically managing resources to deliver organisational goals. Additionally, you will manage technology budgets aligned with organisational priorities, oversee vendor and contract management, performance monitoring, risk management, and drive effective IT governance.

Further, you will cultivate strategic vendor partnerships to enhance performance, innovation, and value. You will own and continually evolve the enterprise-wide technology roadmap, proactively adapting to emerging trends, business requirements, and market conditions. Leading organisational change management related to technology and digital transformation, you will ensure successful adoption and active stakeholder engagement. Additionally, you will establish and monitor clear KPIs for technology performance, regularly providing transparent reports to executive leadership and the board.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Management, Commerce, Information Technology, or a related business discipline.

  • Minimum 10 years' senior leadership experience driving strategic technology initiatives, business transformation, or organisational change within complex business environments.

  • Proven expertise in developing and executing strategic technology roadmaps and digital transformation programs aligned with corporate strategy and business priorities.

  • Demonstrated track record influencing and managing relationships at the Executive and Board levels, with the ability to clearly communicate complex strategic concepts.

  • Extensive experience leading large-scale organisational change, demonstrating a strong understanding of change management principles, strategic business impacts, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Proven capability in leading, mentoring, and empowering diverse teams, fostering collaboration, innovation, and high performance with clearly defined expectations.

  • Strong strategic business acumen, with the ability to identify commercial opportunities, emerging trends, and innovations to achieve strategic outcomes.

  • Demonstrated experience managing significant operational and capital budgets, ensuring effective strategic allocation and accountability aligned to organisational goals.

  • Ability to maintain an ongoing conviction-free criminal history check, particularly in relation to security-related offences.

  
Desirable:

  • Senior leadership experience within asset-intensive or regulated sectors such as ports, logistics, transport, or critical infrastructure.

  • Demonstrated strategic oversight of cybersecurity, project management, risk management, and compliance frameworks, particularly familiarity with requirements of the Security of Critical Infrastructure (SOCI) Act.
