Senior Project Engineer

Reporting to the Projects manager, this is a brilliant opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer to work with one of Newcastle’s leading employers within the industrial sector, within a connected, innovative and supportive culture, closely knit to the success and growth of the region.
Previous experience working within a heavy industry plant operating environment is essential.
This Senior Project Engineer role will oversee the whole project lifecycle but be heavily involved in report writing and the initial planning phase. This role will deliver high level technical expertise and project management skills early in the typical project lifecycle, as well as supporting the Engineering manager and broader Assets team. This role is accountable for providing independent technical analysis, recommending solutions and providing third party review and opinions on engineering activities conducted by peers.
Key Responsibilities include:
Front end role, generating reports and plans within the mechanical space, heavy industrial plant operating experience is essential.
This role requires a high level of report writing skills and the ability to present a strong business case to the Senior Leadership Team.
Provide guidance and mentoring across peer roles in mechanical, structural and civil disciplines, to produce quality and robust technical solutions.
Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Conduct research and analysis on technical issues, developing scope for future major works ($1M+) improvement and remediation projects.
Contribute technical support and guidance during shutdown activities.
Test asset robustness by conducting spot audits.
Manage early phases of multiple projects including cost, schedule, scope and performance accountability.
Coordinate the interfaces between the technical, maintenance, HSEC, commercial and regulatory activities required for the successful delivery of projects.
Report project progress routinely in written and verbal forms to relevant stakeholders.
Strong commercial acumen and ability to pull together financial justifications in reports
Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the scope and priority of proposed major projects.
Implement and execute budget management strategies and forecasting for projects to ensure accurate costs are established
Education & Experience:
Formal Mechanical Engineering degree
Experience in heavy industry
Project Management experience
Ability to write and present reports
Up to date knowledge of legislative requirements
Commitment to safety management
